Researchers at the University of Florida have developed new ceramic foams that act as scaffolds for bone repair and the foams offers two advantages over metal plates, Bone cells accept the material and it is bioresorbable.
- foams are lightweight,
- foams are porous,
- possess a large surface area.
- Porosity allows biofluids and arteries to flow through a ceramic implant.
- High surface area allows more bone regeneration to occur.
