LG unveils curved-screen smartphone:-
The G-Flex does not bend, but uses flexible OLED (organic light-emitting diode) to produce a curved six-inch display.Earlier this month, Samsung started retailing its Galaxy Round—a 5.7-inch handset with a display that curves from side-to-side to fit the contour of the hand. The G-Flex is curved on the vertical axis in order to, the company said, "follow the contour of the face".
The Galaxy Round is currently only available in South Korea.Curved screens are still at a nascent stage in display technology, which is shifting towards flexible panels that are bendable or can even be rolled or folded.G-Flex would be available to South Korean consumers from November.

Walking shark"Hemiscyllium halmahera":-
‘Walking sharks, also known as bamboo sharks or longtail carpet sharks, belong to the family Hemiscylliidae in the shark order Orectolobiformes. The newly discovered species, called Hemiscyllium halmahera, reaches 28 inches (70 cm) in length.
The epaulette (long tailed carpet) shark, Hemiscyllium halmahera, uses its fins to “walk” across the ocean floor in search of small fish and crustaceans.
The discovery comes at a time when Indonesia is significantly ramping up its efforts to protect shark and ray species that are now considered vulnerable to extinction, including whale sharks and manta rays.
“This is the third walking shark species to be described from eastern Indonesia in the past six years"
The discovery was made by Dr Gerald Allen from Conservation International, who led the team and filmed the shark.
Conservation International hope that such discoveries will help boost conservation efforts in the area by attracting tourists. The Indonesian islands are home to extraordinarily diverse marine life including at least 218 different species of sharks and rays.

Vili Solar Train:-
The Vili was recently launched in Hungary to carry passengers from Kiralyret and Kismaros, a scenic route not far from Budapest. This solar train is particularly impressive because it carries a cabin full of passengers. The 760mm-gauge vehicle has solar panels on its roof that cover an area of 10 square meters. The panels charge batteries installed under the passenger seats. The regenerative braking system also charges the batteries.
The train's maximum speed of 25 km/hour and is driven by two 7kW microprocessor-controlled asynchronous electric motors, which are mounted on each of the two axles. The railcar offers an open-air experience for 32 passengers as they enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Borzsony hills, moving silently, except for the clickety-clack of the tracks.
The mechanical parts of the railcar were developed by Hungarian company Borzsony 2020, which maintains the Kiralyret line's locomotive fleet, while the electrical systems came from Hungarotrain, an offshoot of the former Ganz Villamossagi Művek (later Ganz-Ansaldo), which predominantly used local materials and know-how to develop the technology.

Ultrasound Device Combined With Clot-Buster Safe for Stroke:-
(UTHealth) showed that a hands-free ultrasound device combined with a clot-busting drug was
safe for ischemic stroke patients.
The device, which uses UTHealth technology licensed to Cerevast Therapeutics, Inc.,
is placed on the stroke patient's head and delivers ultrasound to enhance the effectiveness of
the clot-busting drug tissue plasminogen activator (tPA).
Unlike the traditional hand-held ultrasound probe that's aimed at a blood clot, the hands-free
device used 18 separate probes and showers the deep areas of the brain where large blood
clots cause severe strokes.
In the first study of its kind, 20 moderately severe ischemic stroke patients (12 men and eight
women, average age 63 years) received intravenous tPA up to 4.5 hours after symptoms
occurred and two hours exposure to 2-MHz pulsed wave transcranial ultrasound.
Researchers reported that 13 (or 65 percent) patients either returned home or to rehabilitation
90 days after the combination treatment. After three months, five of the 20 patients had no
disability from the stroke and one had slight disability.

World Day of Audiovisual Heritage

World Day of Audiovisual Heritage:-
27 October
"Saving Our Heritage for the Next Generation" is the slogan of this year's celebration of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage (27 October).
The world’s audiovisual heritage of sound recordings and moving images are extremely vulnerable as a result of factors ranging from neglect, natural decay to technological obsolescence, as well as deliberate destruction.
The UN's audiovisual archive dates back as early as the 1920s and constitutes the memory of the Organization, from the League of Nations to the construction of UN Headquarters in New York, as well as the footage and programmes, which continue to be produced daily.
Archiving such a rich and complex collection is a major challenge. The Department of Public Information's (DPI) continuing efforts to preserve the unique audiovisual heritage of the United Nations – and, as importantly, to keep this heritage accessible to the world – are critical in making sure the Organization's story may be told in images and sounds to future generations.
In the labyrinth of the Secretariat’s basements, a huge task is being performed by a small team of archivists: to inventory and classify all UN audio, film and video materials before the Capital Master Plan reaches the lower levels of the building.
Vinegar syndrome, the acidification of the plastic base of film, is one of the major concerns. With an estimated 7% of the film collection already suffering from acidification, finding digitization and storage solutions has become especially urgent.
To address the challenges of preserving these archives, DPI, along with other departments and stakeholders, is developing a sound digitization programme.
In the meantime, partnerships have been forged with the national archives from various member states such as Brazil, France, Greece, and the Republic of Korea, who selected parts of the collection and will digitize them themselves. These institutions will also provide the UN with a high-resolution preservation copy of the selected material, and therefore, of UN historical moments affecting our humanity.

NASA Releases Video of Sun's Canyon of Fire:-
NASA released this video called "Canyon of Fire on the Sun." Visualizers at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. combined two days of satellite data to create this short film. The images were captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) on September 29-30, 2013.
NASA reports that a 200,000 mile long magnetic filament of solar material erupted on the sun in late September. The filament ripped through the sun's atmosphere (the corona) and left what resembles a canyon of fire. NASA notes that the sun is actually made of plasma, not fire. NASA says the plasma is "particles so hot that their electrons have boiled off, creating a charged gas that is interwoven with magnetic fields."

Tianmen Mountain was authorized as a national forest park in 1992. The mountain is famous for its unique marvelous scene.Tianmen Mountain takes its name from a huge natural cave half way up, which looks like a giant stone mouth gaping at the sky. Tianmen Cave which means a door to the heaven in Chinese.Tianmen cave the natural mountain-penetrating karst cave with the highest elevation in the world, hangs on the towering cliff. It is a natural water-eroded cave with the highest elevation in the world. It is actually a big hole in the mountain but people call it a cave and it has become a major attraction.
The cave become the unique sight under heaven and breeds the profound and grand heaven culture of Fairy Mountain in the local area.
Tianmen Mountain Cableway is the longest passenger cableway in the world with a length of 7455 meters and a height gap of 1279 meters.
Tongtian Avenue has 99 turns symbolizing that the Heaven has nine palaces. It is worth the title - wonder of highway in the world.
The giddy 'sky walk' was built to let valiant visitors scale the dizzy heights on foot, looking down at the green carpet of the surrounding national park.
It offers day-trippers the sensation of walking on the air at the increasingly popular tourist attraction in the Hunan Province, China.
Sightseers are requested to wear overshoes when they cross the 2.5 metre thick skywalk, presumably to help cleaners, who would have to dangle dangerously underneath to wash the glass.
This Glass Plank Road has been added 1,430 meters up the Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain, measures 60 meters in length. The translucent floor guarantees the tourists some unforgettable sightseeing experiences.
San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge

San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge:-
The newly built $6.4-billion eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge reopened on Monday evening, Sept. 2, 2013 nearly a quarter-century after a deadly earthquake during the 1989 World Series collapsed two 50-foot sections of the old structure.Part old and part new, part permanent and part temporary, the hybridized bridge opened late Monday night in time for Tuesday’s morning commute. The 6.9-magnitude Loma Prieta quake hit just as millions tuned in to watch Game 3 of the "Bay Bridge World Series" between the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants, killing 63 people and causing up to $10 billion in damage.
On September 2, 2013, the new East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge opened to traffic. The seismic opening of the new span is more than just an upgrade of one of the country's busiest bridges--it is an epic transformation of the bridge into a global icon.
For the first time in history, pedestrians and cyclists have the chance to travel on the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge. The 15.5-foot-wide bike and pedestrian path opened to the public at 12 p.m. on
September 3.
The Guinness World Records has crowned the new East Span the widest bridge, with a total deck width of 258.33 feet (78.740 m), including 10 lanes of roadway, a 15.5-ft-wide (4.724-m) bike path and a gap where the central tower supports the two bridge deck sections.
In a traditional suspension bridge like San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate, engineers use inches-wide steel cables to hang thousands of tons of concrete and steel over water, and those big cables anchor to the shore. The new eastern span of Bay Bridge, designed by the joint venture of T.Y. Lin International and Moffatt & Nichol, can't rely on the too-small nearby rock or the surrounding muddy ground—which amplifies seismic movement—for support. So the bridge goes it alone, anchoring its 35,200-ton side-by-side steel decks to itself.
The bridge will use a single 2.6-foot-diameter main cable looped around the roadway and held high by a single 525-foot tower. The 10.6-million-pound cable is composed of 137 wire bundles, each consisting of 127 5.4-millimeter-wide steel wires. The cable acts like a giant rubber band.It supports 90 percent of the bridge's weight. From the main cable, 200 steel wire suspender ropes grab hold of the 28 steel roadway decks.
To stay strong during earthquakes, the tower splits into four steel legs, and the ones that are farther east on the bridge were driven at an angle through more than 300 feet through mud to rest on bedrock. The tower legs are joined by plates called shear links, which stiffen when the wind gusts to keep the bridge stable. In an earthquake, the shear links absorb the earth's movement. They're designed to break if the quake is strong enough, to prevent damage to the rest of the bridge

Black Hole of Calcutta

Black Hole of Calcutta:-
The "Black Hole of Calcutta" was a tiny prison cell in Fort William, in the Indian city of Calcutta.According to John Zephaniah Holwell of the British East India Company, on June 20, 1756, the Nawab of Bengal imprisoned 146 British captives inside the airless room overnight. When the chamber was opened the next morning, only 23 men (including Holwell) were still alive.
The dimensions of the room is (24 feet x 18 feet), it would not have been possible to cram more than about 65 prisoners into the space.
According to a calculation by Professor Brijen Gupta in the 1950s, the total of prisoners shut in the black hole was probably sixty-four, of whom twenty-one came out alive. He also produced evidence that Siraj-ud-daula did not order the prisoners to be shut in the black hole and knew nothing about it until afterwards.
Vengeance was swift. Robert Clive marched on Calcutta and set siege to Fort William, which was also bombarded by an accompanying fleet of warships under Admiral Charles Watson. The fort fell to the British in January 1757 and in February with an army of a mere 3,000 men, Clive routed Siraj’s army of perhaps 50,000 with their cannon and war-elephants at Plassey.Siraj fled to Murshidabad, where he was killed by his own people and his body thrown into the river.

In recent weeks, high-street retailers Tesco and Argos have both released tablet devices and just this morning Nokia announced its first tablet computer, the Lumia 2520.
Nokia's device starts at $499 in the U.S. and £309 in the UK, has a 10.1-inch screen and runs Windows RT. It comes in red, blue, white and black and its screen has a pixel density of 218.
The tablet contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 2GB Ram and a 800mAH battery.
Microsoft announced its Surface 2 tablets last month and they officially went on sale today.
Reports in July suggested Microsoft lost around $900m due to poor sales of its original Surface devices.
Called the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, the latest tablets run the latest Windows 8.1 operating system.
The Surface Pro 2 has the same ClearType HD display as its predecessor. It is said to be 20 per cent faster, and Microsoft has added 75 per cent to its battery life.
The Surface 2 runs Windows 8.1 RT version - a scaled-down version of the full operating system that has been designed specifically for mobile devices which Microsoft was forced to pull from it store earlier this week after reports claimed it caused tablets to freeze.
Additionally, the Surface 2 comes with a 3.5MP front-facing camera, and a 5MP rear camera, while the Surface Pro has just a 1MP rear-facing and HD 720p front-facing camera.
Surface 2 is available in 32GB and 64GB models and starts at £359, while the Surface Pro 2 comes in 64GB and 128GB versions and starts at £719.

Avoid Overeating

Ways You Can Avoid Overeating During Holidays:-
Get away from the table :-
The worst thing you can do is stand around the table at a party and dip into the bowl.
No chips or crackers :-
Do not waste precious calories on blasé fare. At parties try the host’s signature dish. Always pick up the special food that have lots of love poured into it, take just a small amount, and feel the taste of each bite.
More vegetables:-
At the start of a buffet, take the tasty veggies such as greens and others on your plate, leaving very little place for those high-calorie treats like cheeses and sweets.Adults who ate the most vegetables and fruits were the least likely to be fat, even when they ate more food overall.
Calm yourself:-
Research claims that people may eat as much as 60 percent more when dining with their own friends. When someone gets third or orders that second glass of wine, you kind of go along them by default. Why do we eat more than we think? If you are surrounded by fast eaters, take a half glass of water between bites to slow down.
Drink slimmer:-
Alcohol is a double problem during the holidays. It tends to decrease your resistance when it comes to eating, and the calories in drinks add up with sped. One research shows that people tend to drink more from fat, short glasses. So try this trick for optical illusion: Use a white wine glass instead of a goblet, or a highball rather than a tumbler.
Curb your options :-
Researchers found that adults who were offered sandwiches with four different kinds of filling ate a second more than those who got only their favorite ones. So the advice is to bundle together similar flavors. For example, put only meaty or salty foods on your plate at the same time. You will get tired of that same flavor more quickly.
